19th century carved white marble bust by French Sculptor Georges Diebolt
Signed solid white marble bust by French Sculptor Georges Diebolt (1816-1861). Approximately 60cm tall x 35cm x 35cm.
The weathered surface give a beautiful aesthetic to the piece.
Diebolt was born in 1816. Dijon-born sculptor Georges Diebolt studied at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts under Jules Ramey and Augustin Dumont. Throughout Diebolt’s career he received several honours and awards during his lifetime, including the 1841 Prix de Rome for a classically inspired relief depicting the Death of Demosthenes.
Diebolt is primarily known for his public commissions, including his large sculptures for the Pont del Alma in Paris, one of which remains in place today. Georges Diebolt passed away in 1861.
